You forgot “I used to be a liberal until radical leftists started putting people up against the wall for mistakenly using the wrong pronouns. So really, it’s your fault that I changed my screen name to 14Pepe88, changed all my opinions about vaccines, want to abolish the income tax, and am now okay with concentration camps at Gitmo. So, like, now I’m a full-blown centrist, and you have only the Marxists to blame.”

Oh man this is perfect lol

I remember a meme circulating a little while ago that went something like, ‘People who change their opinions because they’re annoyed by liberals are weak-willed; liberals are annoyed by other liberals every single day.’

Every fuck time there is a Republican president they claim he is sent from God. A new Messiah and anyone who doesn’t pray to him isn’t a real Christian.

It’s manipulation and using Christianity as a weapon for political gain. Only the weak willed ones fall for that.

This is why I laugh when anyone claims that church and government is separate in America. You literally swear on the Bible before taking office. Honestly, to me, America has always had a similar air of religious fundamentalism as some middle eastern countries. I have always seen them as extreme af. The whole abortion debacle is totally about religious values and religious control. No one can convince me otherwise.

Only the weak willed ones fall for that.

      So, half the voting population.

Also, there has to be something else because I wouldn’t consider myself strong-willed but I’d never fall for this sort of kneejerk rhetoric leading straight to kneejerk voting.

    I mean yeah.

If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.

LBJ was taking about race but the quote “give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you” applies pretty much universally to a third of the population, maybe more. Probably more.

Of course. Does their voter base strike you as people who give two shits about their own well being?

They run on spite. They don’t want to win- they just want you to lose. And they’ll pretend to believe whatever might have to be true to make them feel like you have.

This is accurate. I have a decent amount of Republican family and friends and this week was the first time I’d seen them go, “wait, oh HELL no.” I mean there is now a Republican group that is suing this administration for not following due process and circumventing Congress. That says a lot.

Just think about a retiree boomer who had their savings wiped out. What’s left to lose? Personally, I think there is a Julius Ceasar moment coming. Not condoning that but the writing is on the wall.

That depends what you mean by “well being”. Tons of MAGA folk have voted for Republicans who are cutting the social services they depend on. Clearly that is self destructive, and they know it. Rural hospitals, food stamps, national pension, etc.

That is to say, your comment doesn’t line up with reality. There must be something more going on in their heads.

For the cult? Yes. 100% and they will never come around. There were people in the concentration camps (single digit not trying to rewrite history, this is all according to eye whiteness accounts of soldiers that freed the camps) who were still 100% dedicated to nazism and Hitler.

It takes much longer to fall out of love than the other way around.

The good news is that the magas cherry pick what lies they want to believe. And they’ll wholeheartedly believe when he says it wasn’t his dumb economic policy but [insert scapegoat here] that increased the price of eggs twentyfold.

A gifted politician will find a way to give these people an out that doesn’t require them to admit they ran behind the wrong fasces, but somehow reinstalls stability in DC. If you can’t cut a path like that all they can do is double down because sure as hellfire they won’t admit he was, or indeed they were, the problem.
