RufusFirefly@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•‘Watershed moment’: EU leaders agree plan for huge rise in defence spendingEnglish5·4 months agoYou could always invest in the European defense industry, rather than US stocks https://i.imgur.com/cUpqyJo.png . In any case I’m not looking forward to the US becoming Russia 2.0.
I’ve been online since the late 80s and the Internet, generally speaking, has gone to shit. I’ve been on Reddit for 16 years and it’s been going down the tubes for a while now. Too many people, overzealous mods and now a soft paywall? Yeah, I’m done.
Lemmy can expect some inbound traffic

RufusFirefly@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Exclusive: Bernie Sanders worries young people are underestimating the threat from Trump3·1 year agoBecause of the electoral college, my vote doesn’t mean much of anything in a presidential election because I live in a very blue state, not a swing state. I still vote, though.
RufusFirefly@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•To Fight ‘Shrinkflation’ France Will Force Retailers to Warn Shoppers: Merchants will be required to put signs in front of all products that have been reduced in size without a corresponding price cutEnglish1·1 year agoI do that because I used to work in grocery stores and can noticed even small, incremental price changes on many items. Most consumers don’t do that and hardly notice 3 cents more on this and 2 ounces short on that. We are already accustomed to toilet paper and laundry detergent mega-size and “concentrated” bullshit.
RufusFirefly@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is it normal to forget your own age?5·1 year agoThe only reason I remember that I’m 64 is that I will be 65 on my next birthday. That’s kind of a milestone for a number of reasons and it’s easy to remember. The same was true when I was about to turn 50. Other than that, anything after 30 is kind of blurry

What I’ve seen in the last few years is an influx of Chinese sellers with tons and tons of garbage and all of the reviews are completely worthless, of course.

I also have a Kindle and am on the 3rd book in the Silo series. The other thing about e-books is that even bestsellers aren’t tracked by anyone. There are nowhere near as many books on various sites as there are movies and TV shows, but you can still find just about anything.
RufusFirefly@lemmy.worldto Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Advanced pirates, whats a tip others might not know?English2·2 years agoI’m disabled and on a fixed income and there’s no way I can afford 4 or 5 streaming services. I don’t even watch that much other than an occasional series like Silo and a movie once in a while. I think a lot more stuff is tracked now than it used to be(I even got hit for an older game) and it’s just not worth it to try without a VPN.

I use Prowlarr once in a great while if I’m having a hard time finding something but I don’t DL anywhere near as much as I used to.

I don’t think it would serve any purpose
