Pemdas isn’t as arbitrary as people in this thread think it is.

I love maths, and I’m going to butcher any attempt to explain why pemdas isnt totally random. But you can look it up if you wanna know more I guess

Besides no one ever uses that notation - by the time you learn about quadratics, you leave multiplication symbols out of the equation entirely and much of the notation changes shape, with division exclusively being expressed as negative powers or fractions.

At that point you aren’t going to make mistakes, since each hyperlevel uses a different style of notation. Pemdas is used to teach 4 year olds, and it’s fucking dumb. What happens with a log, or sine function. Don’t even get me started on integrals and derivatives.

Pemdas is shit, but not because it’s abirtary. In fact it’s shit because it’s a shithole acyromn

Metric is based in such a way that the idea is ease of unit conversion.

In base 4 multiplying by 4 would change the unit to kilo or whatever. That would be metric but base 4.

We use base 10, you can argue about the validity of using base 10 but it bears no effect on the metric system. And yes arguements about bases exist.

Base 12 Base 6 Base 60 are all common suggestions. But base 10 is what we are probably are going to be stuck with for a very long time.

  • No I’m not saying we should look for positives But aside from the big flashy stuff, you don’t need to spend hours search for CCP raised taxes in Tibet at one point 5 years ago to know that the CCP is an awful government.

That sort of hatred I suppose leads to the sentiment that Washington is a perfect government etc, its a political view that’s just as worthy of criticism as GZD, and also just as silly.

Now the CCP has done some horrible things and we SHOULD recognise them I think I’ve got my point across, there’s a difference between hating the CCP and HATING the CCP I guess.

  • Right so for a slightly deeper explaination, I was here about a week before the main wave so I got a pretty solid explaination from the old community But essentially our instance doesn’t know about any communities that no one on our instance has subscribed to. Once someone has subscribed to it from this instance, it just gets added and everything is cool. What will happen over time is people will find this problem increasingly rarely since sh.itjust.works members will have already subscribed to most of the important or interesting communities You might already know that so I’m going to leave this here for anyone else who wants further explaination
