It’s a nice feature for those that actively enable it and know that it’s enabled, but not for the average user. Most people never change the default settings. Firefox breaking stuff by default would only decrease their market share even further. And this breaks so much stuff. Weird stuff. The average user wants a browser that “just works” and would simply just switch back to Chrome if their favourite website didn’t work as expected after installing Firefox. Chrome can be used by people who don’t even know what a browser is.

It’s the reason I stopped using Stremio but it’s also the reason why it remains legal in some countries. Popcorn Time had an option to enable/disable seeding on the settings. I really wish Stremio had the same.

I want to keep my ratio above 10, so I use a combination of several other things to replace Stremio on Android TV. It’s a lot less polished but I get a good feeling from seeding.

This is especially dangerous if you’re a data hoarder. It’s a slippery slope that can result in you scalping stuff like old DVRs for drives. Your computer might get very heavy.

I use Joplin. The functionality is nice, but visually the app looks a little outdated in my opinion. It’s worth it though.

Do you use any extension for disabling referrers? This may also be disabled by default in IronFox, but this is just guessing. I haven’t tried IronFox. It would make sense though. I do it on lots of webpages.

I don’t think it’s big enough to have a noticeable impact. It’s estimated to be between 5000 and 50,000 people strong. South Korea had an estimated population of 51,430,018 in 2023. That would make between 0.0097% and 0.097% of their population a part of 4B. So a tiny fraction of the population might have gone from a fertility rate of 0.72 to 0. That’s between 3600 and 36,000 fewer kids.

When I tried to find out how many people were a part of the movement several sources had old estimates because the movement has supposedly almost died out in South Korea. So it might be even less that 3600.

Norway has some of the lowest in Europe. Less than a third of Germany’s prices. Norway is producing more (hydro) energy than it’s able to use.

If you want to help but find configuration hard you can easily help by running a Snowflake proxy on your phone or in your browser.

I have configured my phone run a Snowflake proxy every time my phone is connected to WiFi and charging. It’s automated and does not require me to do anything. I have turned on notifications that tell me every time I’m helping someone connecting to Tor. It gives me a good feeling every time.

The sender is generating the link preview on Signal. Would this not eliminate the threat for the receiver? Not my field.

You shouldn’t give out your real email address. I instead use randomly generated email addresses that forwards emails to my real one. I can easily deactivate any forwarding email address and therefore stop any unwanted emails.

It works really well and also has other benefits like for example knowing who sold your information if you start receiving spam.

You also gain a bit of privacy and security from being a tiny bit harder to track and your credentials being less valuable in the case that the company you gave the random address to has a data breach.

I worked in one of the biggest telecom companies in Europe. This is most likely an order made through customer service. The telecom companies have known about this problem for a long time. They are trying balance security and ease of use for the customer.

If company A implements noticeably stricter requirements for identification to order stuff, the average customer gets annoyed and switches to company B.

Therefore the companies watch each other closely and implement stricter requirements slowly at about the same rate as their competitors.

Protip: You can contact customer service of most telecom companies and ask them to write down a password that you need to tell them before you can order a SIM or other stuff.
