  • Making something seem resilient and successful is very easy in the short term when you have control over what data is coming out of it.

There were companies that were commiting fraud or were straight up ponzi schemes that seemed very successful, all while operating under some oversight from the western governments and the public. Some lasted many years before the facade crumbled and they collapsed.

Now imagine what an entire corrupt government with full control of the reports, the media and no one to answer to, is capable of.

Using resources on a war does stimulate the economy. That’s just the Broken Window Fallacy.

  • Mastodon is a piece of software. I don’t see anyone saying “phpBB” or “WordPress” has a massive child abuse material problem.

Has anyone in the history ever said “Not a good look for phpBB”? No. Why? Because it would make no sense whatsoever.

I feel kind of a loss for words because how obvious it should be. It’s like saying “paper is being used for illegal material. Not a good look for paper.”

What is the solution to someone hosting illegal material on an nginx server? You report it to the authorities. You want to automate it? Go ahead and crawl the web for illegal material and generate automated reports. Though you’ll probably be the first to end up in prison.

  • Sugar itself is not particularly harmful. Most foods we eat naturally contains sugar.

What’s really harmful are sugary drinks, such as regular soda, fruit juices, and sweet coffee based drinks.

The problem comes from how quickly the sugar is absorbed into the blood stream. Regular foods containing sugar such as fruits release the sugar slowly as they are broken down and digested. Sugary drinks however are pure dissolved sugar which is absorbed incredibly rapidly.

It causes a rapid blood glucose spike which is followed by an insulin spike. Having that as a regular occurance is devastating to your body, and can lead to some terrible conditions like non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and diabetes.
