  • It’s funny - I’m often in charge of booking the stay for large family get togethers and trips, and I exclusively used AirBnb. However, after using their service for 6+ years, they ended up canceling a reservation I had had for months THE NIGHT BEFORE OUR TRIP. I didn’t even realize they had canceled on me til our plane had landed.

Turns out, they suddenly had a problem with a misdemeanor I had been charged with 8 years prior when I was 20 (minor possession of marijuana). They disabled my account and said I couldn’t rent through them anymore because of my criminal history. I reached out to them and offered an explanation, as well as reminding them that this was an old conviction of a minor drug possession. I don’t have a criminal record beyond that, and had been an avid customer of theirs for many years with raving reviews. They still denied me, and I’m still banned to this day. So yeah, they can go fuck themselves.

  • I was diagnosed with Celiac disease about 15 years ago - had the endoscopy and then a couple of years later, had the blood marker test to verify. My reactions to eating gluten have not been consistent, and I don’t know what to make of it. More often than not, I get the diarrhea and bloating. Sometimes I get the nausea, but only once have I thrown up from eating gluten. Sometimes I get nothing at all (not as common, but it happens).

Then there was a period of about 1.5 years where I’d get random swelling in my face (usually in my eyes and lips), and hives. My sinus cavities would often get very swollen and irritated, too. But that suddenly stopped, and is no longer a symptom.

Been to a few different gastroenterologists over the years, and went to an allergy doctor when I was having all the facial swellings. Nobody was able to explain why I have such inconsistent reactions, but they are confident I have Celiac disease.

  • Nah, I’ve certainly had a few reflective moments where I realized my missed opportunities. The reality is, unless you’re really confident and self-possessed, it’s hard to put yourself out there. So I can understand why these guys didn’t just spell it out for me, cause they likely weren’t sure I was into them. And on my end, I always struggled with low self-esteem, so I just assumed that these attractive guys weren’t actually into me and were just being nice/good friends.

Anyways, I’m glad your girlfriend is an exception to the rule.

82.4°f is pretty decent weather. Unlivable is more like 100°f+, hence the “100% hot” scale. Nice weather would be 75°f, which makes sense when you think of it in terms of the “0-100% hot” scale.

I agree that other things like distance, volume, etc are better in metric. I really wish the US would just standardize metric UOM in general. But I do think fahrenheit is better for temperature.
